Beginning in 1972, Jackson released a total of four solo studio albums with Motown, among them Got to Be There and Ben, released as part of the Jackson 5 franchise, and producing successful singles such as "Got to Be There", "Ben", and a remake of bobby day 's "Rockin' Robin". The group's sales began declining in 1973, and the band members chafed under Motown's strict refusal to allow them creative control or input. Although they scored several top 40 hits, including the top 5 disco single "Dancing Machine" and the top 20 hit "I Am Love", the Jackson 5 left Motown in 1975.

Hindi Cinema - Imagining the Nation - Bollywood and Hindi Films

Films are social texts, produced within political, socioeconomic, cultural, and techno-logical milieus. Yet, popular films also play an important role in the production, circulation, and validation of cultural forms and norms and, as such, are constitutive of the social, economic, and political.

In India, cinema: "Is the dominant cultural institution and product ... the pleasures the commercial film offers [glamour, drama, and fantasy], and desires it creates makes it a vital part of popular culture and a critical site of cultural interpretation''

Cinematic space acts as a vital node in the flow, intersection, reconfiguration, and re-articulation of a range of competing discourses. Discourses work in the production of subjectivity and of the social imagination-öthe organising field of social practices.

Thus, cinematic representations are sites where:

"Economic and political contradictions are contested and resolved ... meanings are negotiated and relations of dominance and subordination are defined and contested''

Given the range and speed of technological developments in India within the last decade it is difficult to imagine that when film arrived in India it was regarded as a foreign technology a "tool of Europe and part of its dominating project''.

Yet, technology does not arrive with a pre-given set of cultural possibilities but necessarily articulates with local conditions and cultures which determine the ways in which it functions in a particular society. It is notable that Dadasaheb Phalke, referred to as the father of Indian cinema, "made explicit the links between film-making, politics and Indian statehood''.

As Indians, supported by a movement to promote indigenous enterprise, turned to filmmaking, cinematic representations could not remain the exclusive domain of the colonisers but although a popular definition of NRI is an overseas national of Indian origin (excluding those from Pakistan and Bangladesh) NRI may also include Indian nationals employed overseas. The precise definition of who counts as an NRI for particular investments or tax breaks in India is variable.

Bollywood, the 'homeland' nation-state, and the diaspora became part of the terrain for the ideological confrontations between anti-colonialists and colonialists. With independence, Hindi cinema emerged as the de facto, if not de jure, national cinema of India, successfully transcending linguistic and regional divisions within the domestic market.

While the Nehruvian state refused to confer industry status on Hindi cinema in recognition of its role in nation-building, either in economic or cultural ideological terms, the industry became a willing partner in these processes as part of furthering its own commercial interests.

Sankaran Krishna argues that "something called 'India' becomes inscribed, in various ways, through representational practices ... which endow that entity with content, a history, a meaning and a trajectory.'' Hindi cinema performs the national and as a key player in the scripting of the nation shapes its meaning, signifying its internal and external borders. Ashish Rajadhyaksha notes how, after independence, Hindi cinema set about assembling a national market through the construction of unified, national, gendered, racialised, (hetero) sexed subject. In many parts of India the cinema hall was the only space that was not divided along caste lines.

At the site of the neighbourhood cinema hall, Hindi cinema served to suture highly fragmented local public spheres to create a public sphere at the national scale. The production of the 'national' draws on the feminine, sexed body to both explore and naturalise the aesthetic and moral markers of 'Indian-ness'. Thus, women's bodies become a site for inscribing and standing in for national territory, and so "it is on the notion of womanhood that cultural identity of the community and the nation is staked''.

Megastar Chiranjeevis Film Career and His Biography

Chiranjeevi Childhood & Education

The megastar of Telugu cinema, Chiranjeevi was born on August 22, 1955 in Mogultoor, a small town in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. His father - Late Sri Venkat Rao and mother - Anjana Devi named him Konidela Siva Sankara Vara Prasad. He has two brothers - Nagendra Babu and Kalyan Babu and one sister - Vijaya. Chiranjeevi studied in schools located in Nidadavolu, Gurajala, Ponnuru, Mangalagiri and Mogalturu in Andhra Pradesh. He pursued his intermediate studies at C.S.R. Sharma Junior College (Ongole) & graduated with a B.Com degree from Y.N. College in Narasapur, Andhra Pradesh.

Early Years Of Film Career

After completing education, Chiranjeevi moved to Madras (Chennai) to chase his dream of becoming a star in the film industry. Soon after attaining a diploma in acting, in June 1978, he was offered a small role in the film "Punadi Rallu", directed by Raj Kumar. Although he acted for the first time in "Punadi Rallu", Chiru's first film to be released was "Pranam Kharidu" (1978), a directorial venture of K. Vasu. Thereafter, he was offered a series of small and villainous roles in films, including "Manavoori Pandavulu" (1978). "Adavi Donga", released in the same year, was another important movie in his career. In 1979, Chiranjeevi had eight releases and by its last quarter, he had started gaining pace in the industry.

Journey Towards Stardom

Chiranjeevi shined as a star during 1980s, with critically acclaimed roles and big hits. His roles in "Punnami Naagu" (1980) and "Nyayam Kavali" (1981) received equal appreciation from the critics as well as the audience. The turning point in the film career of Chiranjeevi came with "Khaidi" (1983), which fetched him immediate stardom. This film marked the beginning of his dominance in Tollywood (Telugu film industry). Directed by A Kodanda Rami Reddy, the film became a super-hit. The director-actor duo proved to be one of the most successful combinations in the industry during that period. Subsequently, they worked together in 23 films, a majority of which proved to be block busters.

Known for his dare-devil stunts, Chiranjeevi met with a number of accidents on the sets. He was injured while shooting for the climax of the film "Sangharshana" (1983). Thereafter, he underwent an operation in London. However, he continued to perform tough and risky stunts in his films. In the film "Intiguttu" (1984), he was injured when he tried fighting using the tube light. 'Bavagaru Bagunara' is yet another movie in which Chiranjeevi displayed the carefree attitude of a teenage boy, while performing bungee jumping.

Blockbusters

Chiranjeevi continued to give hits to Tollywood. Some of his blockbusters are "Abhilasha" (1983), "Challenge" (1984), "Pasivadi Pranam" (1987), "Athaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu" (1989), "Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari" (1990), "Kodama Simham" (1990), "Gang Leader" (1991), "Rowdy Alludu" (1991) and "Gharana Mogudu" (1992). After a phase of low-career, during the mid 1990's, Chiranjeevi made a comeback in the late 1990's with another series of blockbusters, including Master (1997), Choodalani Vundi (1998), Bavagaru Bagunnara (1998) and Sneham Kosam (1999). "Indra" (2002) proved to be a mega hit and was one amongst the highest grossing movies of the year.

Praja Rajyam

With an ideology of social democracy, mega star Chiranjeevi entered the political arena and established "Praja Rajyam" party in 2008. The headquarters of his regional party is located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Chiranjeevi appeared in the first public meeting for the party on August 26, 2008. Political leaders who have joined hands with Praja Rajyam include former TDP leaders, Mr C. Ramachandraiah and G. Haribabu Naidu.

Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust (CCT)

Chiranjeevi founded a charitable trust, named Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust, on October 2, 1998. The Trust includes a blood bank and a couple of Eye banks, named after the mega star. It has received lots of blood and eye donations till date. CCT was awarded the "Best Voluntary Blood Bank Award" by the AP State Government, in 2002 and 2003.

Personal Life

On February 20, 1980, Chiranjeevi married Surekha, the daughter of yesteryear's renowned comedian - Allu Rama Lingaiah. They have two daughters - Sushmita (eldest) and Sreeja (youngest) and a son - Ram Charan Tej. Sushmita is married to the Chennai business man Vishnu Prasad and Sreeja got married to Sirish Bharadwaj, an engineering student from Begumpet.

Trisha Krishnan

Trisha Krishnan was born on the 4th of May 1983 in Pallakad, Kerala, India. She speaks English, Hindi, Tamil and French. She studied at Church Park, India and Ethiraj College, India. She is an only child and she lives with her parents and her grandmother. She was introduced into the film industry through director Ameer Sultan's film, Mounam Pesiyadhey where she acted in opposite Surya.

Her nick name is honey She has two Raakhi-Brothers Manoj Talagadadeevi and Srujan Baddam who stay in US. She is a Tamil/Malayalee Brahmin She wanted to debut in the film industry with the name Suhasini.

She was crowned Miss Chennai in the year 2000 and won Miss Salem in the year 1999 and won Miss India Beautiful Smile in 2001

Trisha started her Movie career with "Leysa Leysa" which is directed by Priyadarshan.. Trisha well suited her role with Surya in Mounam Pesiyadhe and her upcoming movie is 'Abhiyum Naanum' with Prakash Raj which is directed by Radha Mohan. When starting her successful career in Tamil films she is moved to Telugu films.

Her first telugu movie is "Varsham" in 2004. After a big success in the Varsham film, she won Best Actress awards from filmfair and she got best actress award tn Santosham.

Trisha's Second movie is "Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana" directed by Prabhudeva in 2005. In this year she also did "Athadu" with Maheshbabu and she won Nandi award from Government of Andra Pradesh.

In 2007 she did one more family entertainement movie "Adavari matalaku ardhalu verule" opposite popular hero in telugu film industry 'Venkatesh' which was a full of comedy and entertainement..

Chiranjeevi

Siva Sankara Vara Prasad. Konidela, better known as Chiranjeevi, was born on 22nd August, 1955,at Narasapur, Andhra Pradesh, India. He is one of the top four actors as well as the unofficial number one actor of Telugu film Industry. His father is Venkat Rao and mother is Anjana Devi. He is very often referred to as "Mega Star". He has got two brothers. Nagendra babu and Pawan Kalyan. Nagendra Babu is a film producer while Pawan Kalyan is another famous actor.

Chiranjeevi entered the film industry with the film Pranam Khareedu in 1978. After this film he played a lot of minor and negative characters in films like Mosagadu, 49 Rojulu, Manavoori Pandavulu. It went on like this until he got the breakthrough with the film Khiladi. The film Khiladi, which released in 1983 in the direction of Kodandarami Reddy was a big hit. It gave him the required push to stay on the top along with some more top actors of that time. With films like Abhilasha (1983), Challenge (1984), Pasivadi Pranam (1987), Atthaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu (1989) etc he succeeded in establishing a name of his own in the film industry. His streak continued into the 90's with films like Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (1990), Kodama Simham (1990), Gang Leader (1991), Rowdy Alludu (1991), and Gharana Mogudu (1992). As with any actor, he also suffered some huge box office disasters like Mechanic Alludu (1993), S.P.Parshuram (1994), Big Boss (1995), and Rikshavodu (1995).

These failures made him very careful about choosing a story, banner, director etc and he took a considerable amount of time sizing what actually went wrong. In 1997 with the film "Master", he again started his success streak that continued with the films like Choodalani Vundi (1998), Bavagaru Bagunnara (1998), and Sneham Kosam (1999). Later in 2002 Chiranjeevi had one more release, Indra. This film turned out to be a huge hit and became the highest grossing film of that year. He won both the Nandi Award and Filmfare Best Actor Award for the film Indra. Later in 2003, he came out with another block buster "Tagore". It was also the highest grossing film of that year. His long-awaited "Anji" released in 2004, but it failed to record the success, despite the high expectations. But with the film Shankardada MBBS, he got another huge success. After this film he was again disappointed by the results of movies like Andarivadu and Jai Chiranjeeva. He also appeared in a guest role in the film style directed by Raghava Lawrence. However with the film Stalin he bounced back onto the track. Currently his film Shankardada Zindabad is on sets, which is the sequel of his previous hit Shankardada MBBS.

Chiranjeevi, in october 1998, founded the Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust(CCT). This trust includes Chiranjeevi Eye bank and Blood banks. It is the largest Blood and Eye bank in the state Andhra Pradesh. So far, the Blood bank has helped over 80,000 people and the Eye bank has helped over 1000 people. This trust has also won the award "Best Voluntary Blood Bank" by the government of Andhra Pradesh for the past 4 years. In 2006, he also founded the Chiranjeevi Charitable Foundation (CCF) which was inaugurated by The president of India Dr. Abdul Kalam. In 2006, Chiranjeevi received Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India, from The president of India Dr. Abdul Kalam. Later in November 2006, Chiranjeevi was honoured with a doctorate by Andhra University for his social work and for his services to the film industry.

With the fact that chiru’s son Ramcharan Teja' movie is going to release very soon, speculations are on the rounds that Chiranjeevi is going step out of the cine field and is going to play an active part in Charity and social service fields. So far Chiranjeevi has done a lot to the Telugu cinema field as a great actor and to the people by his Charitable trust. Whatever his decision may be, Let's hope he keeps doing the good deeds.
